The Chemistry of Life

People are often amazed and bewildered—as well as skeptical—when they hear all the amazing things that chiropractic care can do for someone’s health.  They often say, “Well, I thought your spine and getting adjusted had to do with your back.” As we always say, it really has to do with your life. What’s important to note is that numerous health conditions are related to your chemical makeup—having too much or too little of something. For example, too much or too little stomach acid; too much or too little serotonin.

What produces your body’s chemicals? If you look at any anatomy text, you find that glands produce the chemicals of your body. What controls the glands?  All glands in your body are coordinated by the nervous system. Your nervous system has to tell your glands how much (the quantity) and also when to release chemicals. Changes in body chemistry can occur due to glands not producing the right chemicals, which in turn is due to the nervous system being irritated. The bottom line—it’s a good idea to help the nervous system function at its optimum level so the body and its chemistry can be spot-on.

By maintaining nerve pressure, you make it possible for the body to communicate vital information over from the nerves to your glands. Then those glands can make miniscule changes in the amounts and frequency of secretion of different chemicals. By preventing unnecessary deviations from your own personal chemistry norms, you can keep your body in harmony, avoid the need to take man-made chemical cocktails, and maintain your health from the inside out.
