What type of health care do you choose? People often mistakenly think the answer to this has to do with the modality they choose: medications, homeopathy, chiropractic, acupuncture, nutrition. The truth is you could choose any of those modalities and be in the same type of health care. This is because the type of health care your receive has to do with you more than your practitioner.
Reactive care is unfortunately what we have been misled to be health care. Reactive care is when you experience something you don’t like and you react. Most of the time people do something to alleviate whatever they are experiencing that they do not like. For example someone experiences a headache and takes an over the counter medication to relieve the symptom. Someone else may have the same symptom and utilize acupuncture, chiropractic, a homeopathic remedy or a nutritional supplement. Regardless of what you use you are participating in allopathic reactive care. Reactive care is disease care not health care. There is nothing wrong with reactive care. There are many lives saved by reactive care as well as much suffering reduced. As a culture we have generally made Reactive Care, removing an ache pain symptom or condition, health care. However, this is the lowest form of health care and has little to nothing to do with health. It has everything to do with eliminating your experience of your body. This type of care is largely responsible for our country’s health care crisis.
Our culture is beginning to progress from this type of care to Proactive care. This is participating in some kind of health care modality and discipline to improve your overall health before you have a disease or condition. Most commonly this begins with a person realizing that one or more family members have a condition such as heart disease. They decide that they do not want to end up like their parent or grandparent and start to change their diet, exercise, get their blood pressure checked, and basically improve their fitness level. This is far better than reacting to your state of health when you first experience chest pain. However, it is still based upon a condition or disease. Now we are simply trying to avoid a disease or more truthfully trying to avoid death. Is this the loftiest goal we can have for our life and our well-being, to avoid death?
Wellness care truly has nothing to do with a condition or disease. Wellness care is choosing a health care modality or course of action simply because it is of benefit to your well-being. Wellness care means you are exercising, using a nutritional supplement, receiving spinal adjustments because you want more not less. You are making a lifestyle decision. You want to live a fuller more productive life. You want a greater quality of life in every area. Instead of being a victim of life’s stresses you want to be able to adapt to all the physical, chemical and emotional stresses that happen in life effortlessly. You long to be the greatest expression of your body’s wisdom you can be. As Nelson Mandela said “We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.” Whatever health care modality you use we encourage you to choose it for wellness reasons as frequently as possible. Your life will thank you.
