Spring cleaning is known internationally as the time to start fresh and get ready for the year ahead. However, before the winter blues hit in and the weather starts to change from sunny nights to dark and cold evenings it’s a great time to simplify, regather yourself and rearrange your life.
The first week in August is known as National Simplify Your Life Week. This isn’t just about physically removing clutter and unnecessary things that you have in your life. No, it’s about giving yourself space to mentally declutter too. Removing excess items or furniture that you have been stepping over, meaning to organize, for months is always a good starting point. When we start to physically simplify our lives the mental stresses that we carry with it will naturally start to unravel.
When you take back your home and create a space you love, then you can start working on other ways to step back, simplify and take care of you. We have found that when you need to recharge, it is essential to disconnect. Not so long ago, phones and social media were not part of our routine and removing that scrolling habit we all do is a great way to breathe deep and simplify in so many ways. Even if it is just for an hour or two, go back to basics, read a book, go for a walk amongst the trees or listen to your favorite music.
Simplifying your routine could also be your commitment to simplifying your life this August. It doesn’t need to be anything drastic, for example, how about preparing your breakfast or lunch the night before work rather than having a rushed morning grabbing whatever you can to take with you on your commute – take the time to make yourself something nutritious yet interesting so you can keep fuelled during your busy day.
Simplifying is small changes that work towards a less stressful everyday life. Jump on board and commit to simplifying your life this August with us!
